After almost having him join us in our 2012 Season, I am finally pleased to announce that Commercial Photographer JOEL GRIMES is our 2013 Image Explorations Instructor.

BIO OF JOEL GRIMES

In 1984 Joel graduated from the University of Arizona with a BFA in Photography and soon established a commercial studio working out of Denver Colorado.

For over 27 years Joel has worked for many of the top advertising agencies and corporations across the globe for clients such as AARP, AES, Abbott Labs, Archer Daniels Midland, Arizona Office of Tourism,  AT&T, Broncos, Comcast, Febreze, Goldman Sachs, Hewlett Packard, Hyatt, Kodak, Nikon, Pentax, Phillips 66, Philip Morris, Procter & Gamble, Pfizer, Qwest, Sony, Sturm Ruger & Co, United Global, USA Boxing, Visa, Volvo, Xcel Energy, and most recently Red Bull.   Over the years his assignments have taken him to every state across the USA and to over fifty countries around the globe.

In 1990 Joel produced his first coffee table book, ‘Navajo, Portrait of a Nation’ which received a number of photographic and design awards and produce an eighteen-month solo exhibit at the Smithsonian American History museum.

Driven by the creative process, Joel views himself as an illusionist, creating portraits larger than life. “There is no face on the planet that is the same, and my vision as an artist is to capture that individual uniqueness through the creative photographic process.”

Joel is also an ambassador for this process by teaching workshops and lectures across the country.  “I feel that by being an open book with my process I have an opportunity to inspire others to follow their dreams and passions to create”.

Joel currently has a photo studio located in Old Town Pasadena California where he resides with his wife Amy.

Course Title:  Taking your creative vision to the next level

Description: This class is a must for those who what to take the mystery out of using strobe lighting and learn to become a creative force and THINK LIKE AN ARTIST.

Throw out those lighting diagrams, those annoying lighting ratios and sell your flash-meter on eBay. Well, that may be a bit drastic, but think about this; a technical instrument can never make a creative artistic decision, this is reserved for the human mind.

Over this course I will be covering how to use all sorts of modifiers such as soft boxes, the beauty dish, octagon banks, umbrellas, grids, etc., while working from an intuitive, feeling approach.  This is without question the key to the whole creative process.  You will be presented with ways on how to develop your personal creative vision that is unique to you.

And not to be overlooked, I will be covering my Photoshop techniques used in my photographs, including the HDR techniques used for all my backgrounds.  I hold back nothing in revealing my photographic process.

What is IE 2.0 | Image Explorations Photography School

Image Explorations 2.0

So if you have been to IE 2012 you would of heard us mention the phrase IE 2.0. If you haven't then keep reading as this whole post is about to describe to you what it is all about.

IE (Image Explorations) has had an amazing run. For 13 years now IE has prided itself on cultivating a great atmosphere for both entry level photographers and seasoned photographers alike. Our specialty is giving  all photographers the opportunity to spend time with our instructors, learning from them both in class and out. After all, being a photographer is more then just how to take a picture. It's about life.

One of the things the team has felt coming into 2013, was that IE needed a fresh look and experience for those who  attend. But more so, we felt that IE  needed to go another level in both experience and learning. And that's why IE 2.0.

WHAT IS IE 2.0 ?

IE 2.0 is the perfect merger of the old and new. Giving everyone the experience and opportunity to learn as usual at IE, yet with flexibility and options.

There are 2 key components with IE 2.0.

  1.  You can now take 2 instructors  during your 4.5 days at IE and not just one.

This 2 Instructor module is the first of its kind for any PPA School and allows you the opportunity to maximize your learning with 2 instructors and at the same time gives you the flexibility to have control over what you want to learn. You now have the ability to choose 2 different disciplines to learn from giving you maximum learning for your dollar.

The 2 Instructor format gives you 13hrs of learning from each of the 2 instructors you choose with a good break in the middle for transition.

For those who loved the tried and true format of IE with 1 instructor thru the whole week, we have also included that option for you too. There will be 3 instructors who will continue to teach the 4.5 day format.

     2. ADVANCED COURSES

We are so stoked that for IE2013 we are able to to launch our very first Intensive ADVANCED COURSE for IE 2.0 !

These courses have prerequisites and you must full fill the prerequisites before acceptance into the program. Each Advanced course will be unique in what the requirements are, some will need portfolio submissions, others will need financial submissions. You must be an attendee of IE for 3 years as well.

These Advanced courses are truly meant to be advanced and therefore the format of this course will be much different then any other course you will take. It will be demanding and challenging and in essence run like a military style boot camp where the skills you learn will be drilled into you so you literally will be mastering it and not just learning about it.

So there you have it. IE 2.0 !

I sure hope this gives you all the inside scoop on what IE 2.0 is and excites you just as much as it does us, the IE Team.

Leave us a comment and let us know what you think.

The NEW UPDATED 2013 Website will be online hopefully by DECEMBER and online registration will commence January 1st, 2013.

As always first come first serve so please be prepared to get your registration in early to secure the class you wanted.

There is more on IE 2.0 in the Next post.
