Course Requirements:

The time we will spend together at the Image Explorations School will be magical…a glorious few days to learn, experiment and relax with kindred souls. Emily Connolly, a wonderful artist (who just happens to be my sister) will be on board to assist. Emily works magic with her Photoshop skills and we are both looking forward to opening Pandora’s Box with you.

· Camera 35mm DIGITAL camera with lenses, accessories you use

· Compact Flash Cards 256mg or larger

· Batteries and Charger

· Compact Flash Card Reader (we can share, if you don’t have one)

· Thumb Drive or External HD to transfer files to master computer

· Laptop Loaded with Photoshop CS3, CS4, or CS5

6-10 examples of your work HARD COPY PRINTS for this exercise

(too time consuming to use digital format for each person)

Not necessary to bring fancy portfolio…
bring samples of your current client and/or personal work.
This is important as it helps to evaluate a style and a direction.

Assignments:

Bring 2 images

· photograph, painting or illustration that you truly love and would like to emulate in your work.

Bring a copy of a National Geographic Magazine …

· this is for experiment with solvent transfers. We will also demonstrate solvent transfers using Xylene and laser copies. If you want to try this, you will need to create a couple of dramatic images on an inkjet printer….reverse the image in Photoshop, print a copy that is high contrast and take to a Kinko’s and ask to copy on the color lazer copy machine.

· Must be color mode and color copy. This image will have a rather shiny surface and the ink can be transferred to art papers that we will supply. I am attaching a file to show you the type of image that works. Images need to be fairly simple, sharp, and nothing soft or blurred. Portraits unless an artistic silhouette do not work well. Size images 5 x 7, 4 x 6 or 5 x 5 at 300 dpi.

You will be paired off with someone to photograph each other and create self-portraits.

Bring something interesting to wear (or who knows, you may end up in the buff!).

Think about a planning session and make this special.

A quote from Snowden…

"I think the only way you can learn about taking photographs is to be photographed yourself so that you can see what an awful experience it is.”

Well, we try to prove him wrong, and make this a wonderful experience.

You will be given an assignment to photograph, and we will discuss this and show examples on the first day of class.
